Old meets new

For Christmas I always make  a special corner in my living room. A sweet spot, that is, where I display all the Christmas sweets I make orI'm given as presents during the holidays.

It's an utter indulgment not to say a disaster for my diet, as I eat the leftovers the next days! Fortunately for my sweettooth self this year there were many leftovers!
The sweets list consisted of many traditional and more modern sweets. Let's begin with the Greek traditional Christmas sweets, most made by my mum:

baklavas rolls
melomakarona
kourambiedes

baklavas rolls

melomakarona

Moving on with the new- not traditional sweets in the sense that my grandma didn't use to make them, in fact they were totally unknown to her-

chocolates
a variety of cookies and biscuits

I'm afraid until my stock ends, I'll be 100 kilos!
How about you? What's your favourite Christmas sweet that you crave for every year?

As I've already seen in the  blogs I follow, there is no end to creativity and style in baking !

Wishing everyone

a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!

Improvising

This was my last minute table decor for Christmas lunch.

As there was no time to plan it beforehand, I had to improvise making use of the things I had in hand:

lanterns
candles
red napkins
homemade biscuits
garden cuttings
green ribbon

It turned out to be a white and red scheme- my favourite for Christmas, reallly easy to make (it took me just 5' minutes). My guests loved it, especially the biscuits!

Merry morning

When my -normally empty- house gets filled with my beloved ones on any occassion, everything is wonderful! As every year, my parents came to stay for Christmas. On Christmas morning I woke up up to see them having coffee in my living room within beams of morning light . Such a bliss...

Christmas lunch was lovely too, with the family gathering together around the christmas table.
What more to ask for, I thought to myself?
I really hope you were as lucky as I was, spending these days with your closest ones...

Wishing everyone

Jingle bells

The bells  jingling on my desk! Yes, they do, yes, they do!

Earlier today I went to a shop to browse a bit. My attention was drawn to a bag of small bells for crafts, you know, the simple, small bells. I immediately took it in my hands and started shaking them. Oh, my, they jingled!I was so happy, not all of the craft bells usually do.'I'll buy them!' I thought to myself. That moment, the shop assistant comes to me saying in full joy: 'I heard bells ringing. Oh, I see that you're about to buy them, how nice!'. I went to the cashier. She starts looking at the things I bought. She takes the bag of bells in her hands, smiles, and says: 'Oh, bells'. Then, she starts ringing them. I couldn't  help it so I asked her. 'What is it that you like so much about them?'  'Why, they're so cute!'
Coming out of the shop I was so amazed that such a thing as little bells made three people happy for a moment.
So, I decided, first, they'll certainly turn into something special for Christmas in the hope that they make even more people happy.
And second,  bells will jingle earlier than usual in my house this year, they deserve it: so early December it is!

How about you? How do you feel about jingle bells ?

PS. Thank you all for the get well wishes. They worked!
